Café culture in Metsovo is unhurried and largely centred on the main square. Most of the kafenia open from breakfast time until late at night, serving Greek coffee, tsipouro (the local grappa-like spirit), small plates and pastries. There is no real nightlife — Metsovo is a place to drink wine over a long dinner, then sit by a fire.
Tsipouro is the local drink to ask for: clear, fierce, distilled from the lees of the wine harvest and traditionally served with a few mezedes. The Vlach version is often unaniseed (unlike its Cretan and Volos cousins).
