Tossizza Folklore Museum

The eighteenth-century Arhondiko Tossizza is the preserved mansion of one of the wealthiest Vlach trading families of Metsovo, restored in the 1950s by Evangelos Averoff and opened as a folklore museum. The interior is a remarkable survival: low-ceilinged rooms with hand-carved wooden panelling, tiled stoves, woven kilims, copper kitchenware and the storage rooms where the family kept its tobacco and silver.

Visits are by guided tour only, in Greek with some English available; tours run on the hour and last about thirty minutes. You'll see the women's quarters upstairs, the men's reception room, the kitchen, and a small chapel. It's the single best way to understand what wealth meant in pre-industrial mountain Greece.
