A long sandy beach on the southeast coast, near the headland at Mykonos's eastern tip. Kalafatis was once the site of a Venetian fortress and is now home to a water sports centre — it is one of the best beaches on the island for windsurfing and kitesurfing, the meltemi wind that can ruin days on the north coast works in your favour here. The beach is exposed and the waves are usually bigger than elsewhere on the island.
Tavernas and a diving school operate here in season. The beach is accessible by taxi or car; no direct bus service. Combine with Kalo Livadi, just around the headland, for a full day on the eastern coast.
