Matogianni Street

The main shopping street in Mykonos Town and the closest thing the island has to a high street — though "street" understates the labyrinthine charm. Matogianni and its radiating alleyways are lined with boutiques selling linen and cotton clothing, leather sandals handmade to order, fine jewellery, ceramics, and art. International luxury brands sit alongside small Greek designers; the shopping is genuinely good even if the prices match the island's reputation.

The street itself is photogenic — narrow, whitewashed, draped with bougainvillea and busy with pedestrians. In the evening, when the shops stay open late and the light is soft, it is one of the nicest places to wander on the island. Most shops are cash-friendly; the handmade sandal workshops, in particular, prefer to work to order and can deliver in 24 hours.
