Piraeus Municipal Theatre

The grand 19th-century Piraeus Municipal Theatre on Korai Square is the city's main civic monument — a neoclassical pile in cream and ochre that has hosted opera, drama, and political rallies since 1895. After a long restoration it reopened in 2013 with a programme of opera, music, and theatre.

The square in front, with its plane trees and modest fountains, is the social heart of central Piraeus. Look out for the bronze statue of the poet Tassos Vournas.
