Skyros Town is the island's most rewarding place to wander, with narrow lanes climbing between white houses toward the castle and the monastery of St. George. The walk is steep in places, but the views over the town and coast make the climb worthwhile.
It also links several of the island's cultural stops, including the archaeological and folklore museums. Come early or late in the day if you want the lanes at their best without the heat.
