Giola Natural Pool

A natural seawater pool carved by wave action into the rocky coastline near Astris at the southern tip of the island. The sea fills a deep, roughly circular depression in the rock, creating a sheltered swimming hole that looks for all the world like a natural bathtub — warm, clear, and protected from the open sea by a low lip of rock. Local swimmers jump into it from the surrounding rocks, the higher the ledge the more committed the plunge.

Go early morning — before 9am if possible — or the pool fills quickly with visitors and loses most of its appeal. By midday in July and August it can feel less like a discovery and more like a crowded lido. In shoulder season it is much quieter and the walk out along the coast from the small car park is genuinely lovely. There are no facilities at all; bring water and be careful on the rocks, which are slippery when wet.
