Balatongyörök is a small north-shore village east of Keszthely, best known for its views back across the lake and toward the volcanic hills of the Balaton uplands. It is quieter than the main resort towns and works well as a cycling or slow-train stop.
The beach is pleasant enough, but the real appeal is the sense of space at the western end of the lake. On a clear day the water, vineyards, and low hills line up in exactly the way people imagine Balaton before they see the busier resort strips.
