Lenti is a small town in far western Hungary, close to Slovenia and the wooded Kerka valley. It is not a place to cross the country for, but it makes a good slow day if you are already in Zala County or moving between western Hungary and Slovenia.
The main draw is the Lenti Thermal Spa, a local version of Hungary's bath culture without the scale or fame of Bük or Hévíz. The more distinctive pleasure is the Csömödér State Forest Railway, a narrow-gauge line that runs into the forests and villages south of town in the warmer months.
Lenti's sights are modest, but they add up: the thermal baths, the forest railway, a little railway exhibition, and the green edge of the Kerka valley. Come with a quiet-day mindset and it works.
