Rosslare

County Wexford ferry town with a long sandy strand and sea links to Wales and France.

Rosslare is a small seaside town in County Wexford, on Ireland's southeast tip. Most people know it for Rosslare Europort, the main ferry terminal connecting Ireland with Wales and northern France — Stena Line and Irish Ferries run regular services to Fishguard, Pembroke, and Cherbourg. If you are arriving in Ireland by sea from Britain or the continent, this is likely your first stop.

The town itself is modest but pleasant, with Rosslare Strand — a long sandy beach that catches whatever sun the southeast of Ireland has to offer — as its main attraction. The strand stretches for several kilometres and is popular for walking and windsurfing. The area around Wexford town, about 20 kilometres north, has more to see — the Irish National Heritage Park and the Wexford Opera Festival in October are the main draws.

Guide

Getting There

Rosslare is connected to Dublin and Wexford by the Iarnród Éireann rail service from Rosslare Europort station, with services running several times daily. The journey to Dublin Connolly takes about two and a half to three hours. Wexford town is twenty minutes by rail or road.

By car, the N25 links Rosslare to Wexford and the main road network. Dublin is approximately two hours north on the N11. Bus Éireann runs services to Wexford and further afield, though frequencies are limited compared to the rail service.

For ferry passengers, the port is just south of Rosslare Strand village. Both Stena Line and Irish Ferries operate passenger and car ferries from Rosslare Europort to Wales (Fishguard, Pembroke) and to Cherbourg and Roscoff in France. Booking in advance is strongly recommended in summer.
