Dunmore Head is the westernmost point of mainland Ireland — and, depending on how you count the British Isles, of Europe. The headland is a high, grass-covered cliff that runs out into the Atlantic between Coumeenoole Strand and the channel separating the mainland from the Blasket Islands. A short, signposted walk leads from a small car park up to the summit, where on a clear day you can see Inishtooskert, Inishvickillane, and the long whaleback of Great Blasket.
The wreck of the Spanish Armada galleon Santa María de la Rosa, sunk in the Blasket Sound in 1588, lies a few miles offshore. The headland was also a key filming location for Star Wars: The Last Jedi — the slopes above the cliffs were one of the stand-ins for the planet Ahch-To. There are no facilities; bring a jacket regardless of the season.
