The Church of SS Augustine and John, universally known as John's Lane Church, dominates Thomas Street with one of the finest church spires in Dublin. Designed by Edward Welby Pugin and George Ashlin and completed in the 1890s, its richly carved Gothic Revival exterior carries statues of the twelve apostles, and John Ruskin is said to have called it a poem in stone.
The interior is just as lavish, with a soaring nave, glowing stained glass, and ornate side chapels. It is an easy and rewarding stop while exploring the Liberties, standing a short walk from the Guinness Storehouse and the area's distilleries.
