Enniscrone is a seaside village on the west coast of County Sligo, built around a long strand, dunes, surf schools, and the old habit of soaking in hot seawater and seaweed. It is a resort, but not only a resort strip: the beach is genuinely good, the Atlantic setting is broad, and the seaweed baths give it a local ritual that many prettier beaches lack.
Enniscrone Beach is the main draw, a long sweep of sand suited to walking, swimming, and beginner surfing. Kilcullen's Seaweed Baths has been operating since 1912 in an Edwardian bathhouse above the shore. Add the old Cliff Baths, the ruin of O'Dowd's Castle, and the dunes around the golf course, and Enniscrone has enough for a proper spare day.
The village is easy to reach from Ballina or Sligo by road. It is best in good weather, but even on a grey day the beach walk and a seaweed bath make a strong argument for stopping.
