Capo Rizzuto Lighthouse

The lighthouse at Capo Rizzuto stands on a low promontory at the southern edge of the marine protected area, a white tower visible from both land and sea. It is an active lighthouse, operational since the late nineteenth century, and marks the point where the Ionian coastline curves west toward the Gulf of Squillace.

The cape itself is worth visiting for the seascape — a wild, wind-scoured headland with low macchia scrub and views in both directions along the coast. The waters off the cape are part of the marine reserve, and the rocky shoreline is good for watching seabirds. Access is by road from Isola di Capo Rizzuto, about 25 kilometres from Crotone.
