Ravello is compact and its pleasures are concentrated: two extraordinary villa gardens, a medieval cathedral, a handful of Romanesque churches, and views over the Amalfi Coast that are as good as any in Italy. Most visitors come for a half-day, which is enough to see the main sights. Those who stay overnight find the town transforms after the day-trippers leave — the light changes on the gulf, the restaurants quiet down, and the town feels genuinely inhabited again.
