A travertine fountain on Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, designed in the mid-18th century by Luigi Vanvitelli — the architect behind the Royal Palace of Caserta and one of the leading late-Baroque designers in central Italy. The fountain is the largest in the city and was built to supply drinking water to ships in the port; the four spouts represent the four seasons.
It is now mostly decorative but still gushes. A quick stop between Fort Michelangelo and the cathedral.
