A late-Roman octagonal baptistery dating from around the 5th century, standing beside the medieval cathedral in the historic centre. The building is the most important early Christian monument in Liguria. Inside, a 5th-century mosaic decorates the apse. The adjoining diocesan museum holds Roman finds from the surrounding area.

A story
Built in the 5th century, the Albenga baptistery is the finest surviving early Christian monument in Liguria. Its interior mosaic — a blue sky dotted with twelve white doves — dates from around 450 AD and was rediscovered only in the 20th century beneath later plaster.
