Genoa itself isn't a beach city — the best swimming is in the smaller towns along the Riviera east and west. That said, the Vesima beach west of the city is a public stretch with facilities, and Nervi, a short train ride east, has a beautiful cliff walk and a shingle beach below. For real beaches, head to Camogli, Santa Margherita, or the Cinque Terre.
