Spring (April–June) is the best time to visit Genoa — mild temperatures, the city not yet overwhelmed with tourists, and the surrounding hillside villages at their greenest. Summer is hot and busy, especially August. Autumn brings the Salone Nautico, Europe's leading boat show, which fills the port every October. Winter is mild by Italian standards; it rarely snows and the old city is pleasant to explore with fewer crowds.
