Palazzo Ducale

Former Doge's palace, now a major exhibition venue

Address Piazza Matteotti 9

The former seat of the Doge of Genoa, this massive palace dominates Piazza Matteotti and has been fully restored into a major cultural hub. The grand internal courtyards are free to enter; the upper floors host rotating exhibitions that are often excellent. It's the symbolic heart of the old city and worth stepping inside even if you skip the exhibitions.
