La Spezia is primarily a base for the Cinque Terre, but the city itself has enough to occupy a day. The Naval Museum is exceptional — one of the best in Italy. The market hall and the historic centre around Via del Prione are worth exploring on foot. The harbour area, known as the Porto Mirabello, has been redeveloped into a pleasant waterfront walk.
