Teatro Verdi

Brindisi's main theatre, the Nuovo Teatro Giuseppe Verdi, opened in 2006 after a long reconstruction project that replaced an earlier nineteenth-century theatre that had stood on the same site. The new building is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional opera house form: a red-and-gold auditorium seating around 1,500, with modern acoustics and stage machinery.

The theatre hosts opera, orchestral concerts, ballet, and drama from autumn through spring. Programming leans toward Italian classics — Verdi and Puccini naturally feature prominently — but the season usually includes some contemporary and international productions. Tickets are reasonably priced by Italian standards and the theatre is almost never sold out outside of opening night. Check the website or the box office on Piazza della Vittoria for the current schedule.
