Brindisi is well placed for day trips across the Salento. Lecce to the south is the most obvious — the baroque city is only 40 minutes by train and easily fills a day. Otranto on the eastern tip of the heel is further but rewards the effort with its mosaic cathedral floor and Aragonese castle. Alberobello to the north requires a car or a bus-train combination but puts you in the middle of the trullo country. Ostuni, the white hill town visible for miles across the olive plains, is about 40 minutes by car or train.
