The lungomare runs from the harbour around the foot of the castle and along the bay to the north. In the evening it is the main passeggiata — locals walking, eating granita, watching the lights come on across the water. The harbour itself is small and still working, with fishing boats unloading the morning catch on the quay.
This is where you take the ferry across to the Albanian port of Vlorë in summer, or the smaller boats that shuttle along the coast to Capo d'Otranto and the Grotta della Poesia.
