Polignano a Mare is Puglia’s cliff-edge showpiece, a white old town balanced above the Adriatic with balconies, terraces, and houses leaning over blue water. It is famous for the view down into Lama Monachile, and yes, that view is as good as the photographs suggest.
The town is no secret. In summer the lanes fill quickly, the tiny beach is crowded before lunch, and restaurants know exactly what the view is worth. Still, Polignano has real magic if you work around the rush: early morning in the Borgo Antico, a boat trip past Grotta Palazzese, or an evening walk to the Domenico Modugno statue.
It pairs easily with Conversano, Castellana Grotte, Monopoli, and the inland Valle d'Itria towns such as Locorotondo. Treat it as a place for walking, swimming, and looking over edges.
