Grotta di Ispinigoli

A large karst cave in the Supramonte range about 10 km north of Dorgali, known for its extraordinary central chamber. The main attraction is a stalactite column 38 metres high — one of the tallest in Europe — rising from the cave floor through a space large enough to hold several hundred people. Guided tours enter from a purpose-built entrance and take about 45 minutes.

The cave has been explored since the mid-20th century, and excavations revealed Bronze Age human remains and jewellery near the great column, suggesting it functioned as a place of ritual. The temperature inside stays around 14°C year-round, so bring a layer regardless of the season.

A story
Inside the main chamber at Ispinigoli stands a stalactite column 38 metres tall — one of the tallest in Europe. The cave was known to local shepherds for centuries, but its significance as a Nuragic burial site only emerged when archaeologists found Bronze Age jewellery and human bones at the base of the column, apparently left as offerings.
