Palermo's oldest and most atmospheric street market, running through the Albergheria district in the shadow of the Palazzo dei Normanni. Vendors sell produce, fish, meat, olives, cheese, and street food — arancine, panelle (chickpea fritters), sfincione (thick Sicilian pizza), and stigghiola (grilled intestines) — from carts and stalls along a dense network of streets. The noise, smell, and visual chaos are entirely the point.
Go in the morning when it's busiest. The area around the market is one of the most concentrated pockets of Arab-Norman architecture in the city.
