The Mercato del Capo runs through the Capo district from the church of Sant'Agostino to Porta Carini, a daily food market that has kept its working character better than Vucciria. Vegetables and fruit, the bones and trotters used in much Sicilian cooking, fish on ice in summer, and at the eastern end the stalls of cheap clothes and household goods. Hand-painted signs in the local dialect.
Capo is less of a tourist set-piece than BallarĂ² and feels more like an old neighbourhood that happens to have a market through it. Best in the morning between eight and noon. Sunday quieter; Monday almost empty.
