Pantelleria National Park

Pantelleria became Italy's twenty-fourth national park in 2016, with about three-quarters of the island and its surrounding waters protected as the Parco Nazionale Isola di Pantelleria. The park covers the volcanic uplands of Montagna Grande, the smaller cones of Cuddia di Mida and Cuddia Attalora, and the dramatic coastal cliffs from Punta Spadillo round to Punta Karuscia.

The park headquarters runs guided walks, and the network of marked trails — sentieri panteschi — links villages, lava flows, dammusi and old caper fields. It is one of the rare national parks in Italy that also includes an active human landscape (vines, capers, dry-stone walls), and the management plan explicitly aims to protect that agricultural heritage as much as the geology.
