Pelagian Islands

Remote Sicilian archipelago of Lampedusa, Linosa, and Lampione, closer to Africa than Italy

The islands of Lampedusa and Linosa, together with the uninhabited rock of Lampione, make up the Pelagian archipelago. They lie some 200km south of Sicily and are geographically part of Africa.

Rarely visited by foreign travellers, the islands have uncrowded beaches and crystal-clear water. Lampedusa is the larger and more developed, with the stunning Rabbit Beach consistently ranked among Europe's best. Linosa is volcanic, tiny, and wonderfully quiet.

Guide

Getting There

Lampedusa has a small airport with daily flights from Palermo, taking about 35 minutes, with connections to other Italian cities. By sea, a SIREMAR ferry runs from Porto Empedocle near Agrigento, taking about 8 hours with a stop at Linosa. Book ahead if you want to take a car or get a cabin.
