The old town is small and entirely walkable. The central pedestrian axis, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, runs the full length of the peninsula. A cable car connects Trapani to Erice above the city — a scenic and useful alternative to driving up the mountain road. Local buses connect the city centre to the train station and the outlying areas.
For the salt pans south of the city and the sanctuary/museum at the east end of town, you need either a taxi or a short bike ride; the road is not particularly pleasant for pedestrians. Car rental is useful for day trips to Segesta, Marsala, and Erice.
