The blue palazzo on the south bank of the Arno opposite the centre is the city's main venue for travelling exhibitions, regularly hosting impressive shows of Picasso, Chagall, Escher, Toulouse-Lautrec and other 20th-century masters. The permanent collection on the upper floors holds 14th–20th century paintings of the Tuscan school, fully restored frescoed rooms, and a small but excellent display of decorative arts.
The building itself is worth seeing — a 14th-century palazzo with later Baroque additions, painted a famously deep blue since the 1700s. The exhibitions are the main draw and tickets can be booked online to skip the queue on busy weekends.
