Perugina Chocolate Factory

The Perugina chocolate factory in the San Sisto neighbourhood, a few kilometres from the centre, offers tours of the Casa del Cioccolato (House of Chocolate), including a museum dedicated to the company's history and the production of its famous Baci pralines. Baci — "kisses" — are the dark chocolate and hazelnut bonbons with a love note wrapped inside that have been produced here since 1922. The factory tour takes about an hour, includes tastings, and ends in a well-stocked shop.

The factory is outside the walkable historic centre; you will need a bus or car to reach it. Book tours in advance in high season. The Eurochocolate festival held in Perugia every October celebrates the city's chocolate heritage with events and producers concentrated around the historic centre.
