Kaunas has a lively bar and cafe scene, fuelled by a large student population. The Old Town and Laisves aleja are the main areas for going out. Beer is the drink of choice — cheap, local, and good. On weekends the bars stay busy until late, and a handful of nightclubs in the centre keep going until 4 a.m.
