Eating Out

Klaipeda has a good selection of restaurants in the old town and along the Dane River waterfront. Lithuanian food — hearty, meat-heavy, and potato-centric — is the default; look for cepelinai (potato dumplings stuffed with meat) and šaltibarščiai (cold beetroot soup). The German influence on the cuisine is faint but present in some of the older establishments. Seafood restaurants near the port do fresh smoked fish well.
