The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul is the dominant building of central Šiauliai — a tall white Renaissance and Baroque church with a 70-metre tower that, when built in the early 1600s, was for a long time the tallest in Lithuania. The interior holds an ornate Baroque main altar and a striking 17th-century sundial on the south façade.
The cathedral sits on the central Aušros Square and is the obvious starting point for a walk around the city. Climbing the tower is sometimes possible by arrangement with the parish office; the view across the flat north Lithuanian plain extends remarkably far.
