San Blas is a small, hard-to-reach red-sand beach in the northeast of the island, set at the foot of a steep terraced valley. The drive ends at a small parking area at the top of the hill — from there, it's a fifteen-minute walk down a rough track to the sand. Small four-wheel-drive shuttles are sometimes available for the return climb, for a small fee.
The effort keeps the crowds down. The beach itself is a small curve of red sand, less than a hundred metres long, with shallow water and a single seasonal kiosk. It is a quieter and more atmospheric alternative to nearby Ramla Bay, particularly outside the peak summer weeks.
