Amersfoort sits at the centre of the Dutch rail network, which makes it easy to reach from almost anywhere in the country. Direct trains run from Amsterdam (about 35 minutes), Utrecht (10 minutes), and Schiphol Airport (45 minutes). From the east, there are direct connections to Zwolle, Apeldoorn, Deventer, and Enschede. Amersfoort Centraal is the main station; the city also has stations at Schothorst and Vathorst.
By car, Amersfoort is at the junction of the A1 (Amsterdam–Apeldoorn) and A28 (Utrecht–Zwolle), about 50 km east of Amsterdam.
