Amersfoort's medieval centre is remarkably intact — city gates, wall houses, and canals all within easy walking distance. The Koppelpoort alone is worth the trip, but the real pleasure is wandering the streets between the museums and stumbling on things you didn't expect: a Rietveld building, a feminist traffic light, a tower standing where its church exploded two centuries ago.
