Verzetsmuseum (Resistance Museum)

One of Amsterdam's best and most moving museums, telling the story of the Dutch resistance during the German occupation of 1940–45. The exhibition avoids simple heroics — it presents the full spectrum of responses to occupation, from active resistance to collaboration to the passive compliance of the majority. Personal stories, original documents, photographs, and objects bring the period to life in a way that textbooks rarely achieve.

The museum is particularly strong on the moral dilemmas ordinary people faced: hiding Jews meant risking your family's life; printing underground newspapers meant certain death if caught. A children's section tells the same story through the eyes of four young people. Located on Plantage Kerklaan, near the zoo and the former Jewish quarter. Allow at least two hours.
