Kronenburgerpark

Kronenburgerpark is Nijmegen's most central green space, laid out along the line of the old city moat and containing several surviving fragments of the medieval wall. The park is attractive in a quiet way — tree-lined paths, a small pond, benches used by university students and parents with young children — but what makes it worth seeking out are the wall towers embedded in the landscaping, including the Kruittoren (gunpowder tower) and sections of original stonework that give the park a slightly ruined, romantic quality.

The park is an easy ten-minute walk from the Grote Markt and makes a good route between the city centre and the Kronenburgsingel area. It's particularly pleasant in spring when the trees are in bloom, and on summer afternoons when it fills with people escaping the heat of the shopping streets. Nothing here demands a long visit, but it's a pleasant detour.
