For a small town, Volendam has a surprisingly active bar scene. The waterfront terraces are the obvious draw on summer evenings, but there are also a few proper local pubs tucked away from the tourist strip where you can rub elbows with Volendammers. The town has a strong musical tradition, so live music is not uncommon on weekends.
