Fish is the thing to eat in Volendam. Smoked eel is the local speciality, sold at fishmongers along the harbour, and most restaurants serve fresh catch from the IJsselmeer. Beyond seafood, the town has a handful of solid Dutch-Belgian kitchens and a couple of Italian places near the centre.
