Volendam is small enough to walk everywhere. The harbour, museum, and main shopping streets are all within a ten-minute stroll of each other. Cycling is popular with locals and several hotels rent bikes for around nine euros a day — useful if you want to explore the dike paths toward Edam or Marken. Taxis are available but expensive relative to the distances involved.
