Norwegian Olympic Museum

The Norwegian Olympic Museum at Maihaugen covers the history of the Olympic Games from their revival in 1896 to the present, with particular emphasis on Norwegian participation and the 1994 Lillehammer Games. The permanent exhibition includes Olympic torches, medals, sporting equipment, and memorabilia arranged chronologically, with interactive displays that explain the evolution of individual sports.

The 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics section is the most comprehensive, drawing on the fact that those Games are still remembered as among the most successful in Olympic history — well-organised, intimate in scale, and marked by moments of genuine sporting drama. The museum is housed in a modern building within the Maihaugen grounds and is included in the combined Maihaugen admission ticket; it can also be visited separately.

A story
The Norwegian Olympic Museum holds the only comprehensive collection in the world dedicated to the entire history of the Olympic Games — both Summer and Winter editions. It was established at Lillehammer partly because of the 1994 Winter Games, but its scope is global: Norway has one of the longest continuous records of Olympic participation of any nation, beginning in 1900, and the archive includes medals, equipment, uniforms, and photographs from Games across more than a century. The museum's collection of ski-jumping equipment alone spans 80 years of aerodynamic development.
