Jarlsberg Manor is a 17th-century baroque estate a few kilometres west of Tønsberg, the ancestral seat of the Wedel-Jarlsberg family and one of the finest country houses in Norway. The manor gave its name to the famous Jarlsberg cheese, which originated as a local dairy product on the estate's farmlands.
The house itself is privately owned and not generally open to visitors, but the estate and its grounds can be viewed from the road, and the setting — a formal avenue of trees leading to the main house, with the Oslofjord visible beyond — is handsome. The nearby Sem Church, an older medieval church on the estate, is accessible.
