One of Poland's oldest ethnographic collections, founded in 1902 and housed in the Renaissance town hall on Plac Wolnica. It documents folk costume, craft, ritual and everyday life across Lesser Poland and beyond. The annual competition of Krakow's elaborate Christmas cribs has close ties to the museum.

A story
The museum fills the old Kazimierz town hall, the building from which the once-independent town was governed before it was absorbed into Krakow; inside, full-scale reconstructed peasant cottages and a wall of brilliantly painted folk Nativity cribs (szopki) show the rural traditions of southern Poland.
