Things to Do

Krakow's top sights cluster within easy walking distance of the Market Square. Wawel Castle and Cathedral is the obvious starting point — the royal apartments, armory, and dragon's cave at the base of the hill can fill a morning. The Rynek Glówny itself deserves time: St. Mary's Basilica has an extraordinary Gothic altarpiece that is unveiled every hour to fanfare from the trumpeter in the tower. Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter, has a different character — quieter, more melancholic, with a string of synagogues and the haunting Schindler's Factory museum on its eastern edge.
