Stary Kleparz Market

Outdoor market north of the Old Town selling fruit, vegetables, flowers, and street food daily

Stary Kleparz ("Old Kleparz") is the main outdoor market north of the Old Town, a ten-minute walk from the Florian Gate. It operates most days but is largest and most interesting on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when vendors spread out across the square with vegetables, flowers, mushrooms, cheese, smoked meats, eggs, and seasonal produce from the surrounding Małopolska region.

The market has operated in this location, more or less continuously, since the medieval period — Kleparz was an independent town before being absorbed into Krakow. Today it serves the residents of the surrounding districts and draws Krakow food lovers who come specifically for the wild mushrooms in autumn, asparagus in spring, and the farmers' cheese and smoked oscypek (the distinctive sheep's milk cheese of the Tatra highlands) that are available year-round. The atmosphere is friendly and unhurried. The market is also the best place in the city to buy flowers at Polish prices.
