Vistula Riverbank (Bulwary Wiślane)

Redeveloped Vistula embankment below Wawel with bars, kayak hire, and cycle paths

The Vistula riverbank below Wawel Castle has been transformed over the past two decades from a neglected embankment into one of the most pleasant urban riverbanks in Central Europe. The Bulwary Wiślane (Vistula Boulevards) now extend for several kilometres on both sides of the river, with cycling paths, benches, floating bars moored to the bank, open-air cinema in summer, and the kind of riverside atmosphere that makes a city feel genuinely alive.

The stretch below Wawel is the busiest and most atmospheric — looking back at the castle rising above the river is one of the best views in Krakow, especially in the evening when the floodlights come on. In summer, the floating bars (tratwy) are full from mid-afternoon until midnight; kayak and stand-up paddleboard rental is available. The path continues south along the river toward Kazimierz and beyond — a bike ride along the Vistula is one of the better half-days the city offers.
